About Qhubeka:
Qhubeka helps people move forward and progress by giving bicycles in return for work done to improve communities, the environment or academic results.
Having a bicycle changes lives by increasing the distance people can travel, what they can carry, where they can go and how fast they can get there.
Qhubeka is supported by Team Dimension Data, the pro team Lachlan Morton rides for, and we are delighted to be trying to help the incredible work they are doing.
If you can’t make the event but would still like to donate, you can do so directly to Qhubeka here.
About Thereabouts 3: Discovering Colombia
As an U23 rider Lachlan Morton was touted as the “next big thing” in Australian cycling and no-one was surprised when he secured a contract with World Tour team Garmin-Sharp at the start of 2013. After two years at the highest level of racing, Lachlan was struggling to find the motivation to deliver on his early promise and eventually walked away from the sport.
After many months away from racing, he re-discovered his love of riding which he documented with his brother Angus in what they labeled ‘Thereabouts‘.
This ‘back to basics’ approach also reignited Gus’ love for the sport which he quit far too soon. The brothers lined up a contract with US domestic squad Jelly Belly-Maxxis in 2016 and had a great time racing together. This fresh perspective on riding and racing resulted in Lachlan taking out the Tour of Utah in a dramatic win.
Going into 2017, Lachlan earned himself another shot at the World Tour after signing with Dimension Data. But before he took that step, the Morton brothers wanted satisfy their desire to keep exploring.
In Thereabouts 3, Gus and Lachlan explore the difficult riding and the amazing cycling culture of Colombia which has produced some of the finest road cyclists of past and modern eras. It also progresses their own personal story of how the two brothers have come back to race professional together and how Lachlan is now taking the step back up to the World Tour.
