Hill Climb Season
22-09-26The arrival of Autumn brings with it the hill climb season here in the UK.
This quintessentially British part of the calendar sees short uphill time trials take place on steep hills all over the country, culminating in a national championship race at the end of October.
This weekend saw Westerham CC in Kent host a race on Brasted Hill, a nasty climb with a maximum gradient of 16.5% that will be known to (and often avoided by) those who do their riding in the Kent Downs.
Albion had a team of riders on the start line, with our man Alex Cornwell taking the win with a time of 1:47.
For those in the South East, a date for the diary is Sunday 9th October, where the Catford and Bec CCs host their hill climbs on the same day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, in what is an iconic British racing double-header. The Catford CC Hill climb is the oldest bike race on the UK calendar, having first been run in 1886.
This year’s National Hill Climb Championships will take place on the 30th October.
